This special edition of Birdfoot Backstage will explore Ligeti’s vast tapestry of inspiration, ranging from echoes of Beethoven to medieval laments, African, Bulgarian and Indonesian rhythms, and the jazz greats Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans. It will also feature tasters from Ligeti’s Piano Études and a speedy tour of the horn’s musical symbolism from fairy tales to farewell songs, and include a full performance of Ligeti’s epic Horn Trio (subtitled 'Hommage à Brahms')

The Birdfoot Festival continues its sixth season with Ligeti Split, a two-concert mini-festival presented in partnership with the Tulane Newcomb Department of Music, Dillard University, and WWNO 89.9FM. This mini-festival, made possible by the Selly Foundation Fund, explores music by György Ligeti, one of the 20th century’s most creative minds.
