Founded in 1989, Music in Country Churches was set up with the active support of the Prince of Wales, with the specific aim of bringing world-class musicians to country churches of particular beauty and importance. Concerts over three annual weekends are designed to raise funds to help these churches with maintaining and upkeeping their fabric.

The September 2016 weekend (September 2nd and 3rd) includes a piano recital by Maria João Pires, a duo recital by Adrian Brendel (cello) and Katya Apekisheva (piano), and the trio concert described here, with music by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy, Shostakovich, Ravel, and Hildegard von Bingen
